damian is relatively short for his age, though he has hit a growth spurt, he's got tanned skin, distinctly asian features. his eyes are most often green but sometimes they'll be hazel when he's feeling particularly mellow (the green eyes are a product of living near the lazarus pits). he's got thick black hair that he'll grow out in later years but for now it's kind of spiky. his most common expressions are scowling, sneering and speculating.

damian was raised in a terrorist organization/cult called the league of assassins. it was created by his grandfather, r'as al ghul, with the stated goal being to bring human civilization to it's knees in a massive genocidal culling so that the earth might be healed and protected from humanity's influence. damian was groomed from birth to be a successor. he was worshipped as something between a prince and a demigod, and his teachers and retainers were all expected to happily die so that he might become stronger. they put him through horrific abuse so that he might become stronger, and was then praised when he passed their inhuman trials.
his grandfather was primarily responsible for his training, in addition to lady shiva, his mother and aunt and other assorted assassins in the league. his mother was a flawed but loving mother, who loved her child as best as she could under the structure that they were both raised in, and after being repeatedly dunked in a lazarus pit to induce madness by her sister, she became a lot more paranoid and desperate, as well as more prone to rapid mood swings.
when he was nine, he defeated his mother in combat during a spar, and in return, she told him who his father was, and took him to meet him. his introduction into the bat-family was... not good. he tried to kill tim drake almost as soon as he met him, under the assumption that he was usurping his place as the son of batman and as the rightful robin, he killed a c-list villain and brought his head to the batcave, and worst of all he cussed at alfred. but what he wanted most of all was for his father to love him. and he thought that if he tried hard enough, his father would understand him and would love him and would see he was doing his best.
then his father died. and damian became robin under the tutelage of the first who went by that name, his eldest adopted brother, dick grayson. it was dick and alfred and stephanie who taught him how to be a person and subsequently how to be a hero. he had a rocky start with all of them but eventually he came to see them all as family, and he stood up to the league and fully committed to the path of following in his father and brother's footsteps.
his father returned from the dead (because it's a comic book.) that relationship is a whole mess. he was too wrapped up in what a tragedy damian is to properly emotionally connect with him most of the time, and damian always felt like he was being treated as something broken that needed fixing by the great and flawless batman rather than as a person. bruce was afraid to show his own vulnerabilities and flaws and failed at multiple points to be what damian needed, as hard as he tried, dick was a better mentor to him.
they got through it. damian died, was resurrected, got a cow, got a cat, got a dog, got a turkey, got a fifteen foot tall bat dragon. met his best friend. was adopted by several pseudo big sisters against his will (he didn't actually mind he's just a tsun).
and then closer to the present, when damian was 13, alfred was murdered right in front of him by bane, in circumstances that he sees as his fault and that others see as his fault too. alfred was being held hostage, and his father ordered him to go on the attack and allow himself to be captured. both bruce and damian thought alfred had escaped already. they were wrong.
this lead to a massive disillusionment with heroism, and paired with other losses (his brother being shot in the head and turning into fucking. ric. his best friend being stuck in a volcano for six years and then coming back with their dynamic forever just a bit different. becoming convinced for various reasons that his future is predetermined, and that he can't escape being the batman that would burn gotham to the ground.) he did a bunch of not great things including murdering people for crimes against his family, kidnapping, torture, lying to his friends, and when confronted about it by his father, he ripped off the robin badge and quit.
which brings us to now, he's turned 14 and his desire to discover who he is outside of the shadow of his parents, and to find atonement for being what he is. he still has respect for what being a bat means, and he largely still believes in the power of redemption. but there's still doubts gnawing at him about whether the "monster inside of him" can ever really be tamed or reformed - and if he can't be fixed, can anyone?
ABILITIES
STEALTH
damian was a trained assassin long before he met his father, and as such one of the lessons his mother emphasized for him was to be unseen and take stronger enemies unawares. he also does the insufferable batman thing of leaving mid conversation.
COMBAT
he was trained extensively both by his father and by the league of assassins. when he first arrived at gotham, he was further ahead than any of his predecessors were at his age, and was only held back by a lack of experience in fighting non-lethally and his lacking strength/size at ten years old. now, after having been robin for five years, he's about on par with his adult siblings. he's particularly deadly when he stops holding back and goes for the kill, as shown in the lazarus tournament when he was able to go all out due to a field of immortality rendering death meaningless (and he was immediately able to kill a large chunk of the other fighters).
INVESTIGATION
all members of the batfamily are in some ways involved in detective work, and damian's no exception. his grandfather describes him as equal parts demon and detective, and he's pretty exceptional at it when he puts his mind to it. before meeting his father he was tasked with a final test by his mother to identify him out of a crowd of people, and he deduced that it was bruce wayne with very little detail to go off of. this skill was refined after a lot of training with dick grayson.
MISC
🌕 he's a vegetarian and has a soft spot for animals.
🌕 his ancestry is mixed four ways. he's 1/4th arabic, 1/4th chinese, 1/4th jewish and 1/4th white american.
🌕 he paints and draws, it's one of the few hobbies that's carried over from his time in the league. he finished the family portrait that was commissioned by his dad shortly before his death.
